May 2007 - Quarter Horse 2000
The season started with QH2000 located at
the new venue at Sovereign Quarter Horses in March, Cambs.
From the word go
on day one Carryon My Nifty Guy was extremely unsettled and
it became very apparent that he was obviously going to take
some settling down. Near misses in the Warm up on Thursday
evening only served to make matters worse and it was not
long before Fiona took the decision to spend the time trying
to settle him down as opposed to competing in his scheduled
classes. Having scratched from Novice Amateur Trail and
Novice Amateur Horsemanship competition was left to the
Amateur Pleasure and Senior Pleasure.
The Amateur
yielded not the best of runs as the open sided arena left
too much to look at. Either way Taz was not consistent in
his gaits and showed a faster gait than has been seen
previously. He finished in 5th out of the 12
strong class. Moving on to the Senior he was clearly well
off the mark and remained unplaced however, he was more
consistent but, against some compelling competition in the
form of Mary Larcom on UK Champion Encore Invitation, and
Lee Rutter.
Saturday was a
little better but, as the Novice Amateur Trail did not start
until early evening he was more focused and delivered a
reasonable pattern but, still his attention focused very
much on the outside of the Arena. A mistake with the gate
led to a five point penalty but overall he finished in 7th
in a 15 horse class.
Sundays Pleasure
classes and Taz was going much better, still lacking the
pace that he is known for meant that he remained unplaced in
the Amateur Pleasure. Senior though showed through and he
finished 6th in another strong class and which
Fiona felt was more in keeping with his form.
Overall Fiona felt
that she was, to a degree, to blame for the lack of
performance. The near misses had knocked her confidence and
she felt that she was still trying to carry Taz and should
trust him more. This was backed up with coaching from Mary
Larcom.
